Who We Are

We envision a Lancaster County where nobody has to choose between paying their rent and affording life’s other essentials.

We imagine a community where all residents recognize the importance of affordable housing and how it improves the quality of life for everyone.

Lancaster Housing Works is a 501(c)3 nonprofit working to create hundreds of reasonably priced rentals across our county.

Founded in 2024, we’re piloting a new funding model that will sidestep some of the biggest challenges to the development of middle-income housing. This model will increase the supply of housing that Lancaster County residents earning 50–80% of the median income can realistically afford.

Our
Values

  • COLLABORATION.

We recognize that we are one of many stakeholders working together to provide solutions to Lancaster County’s housing problems. We commit to being deeply collaborative, knowing that we can only be successful through partnership.

  • SOLUTION-ORIENTED.

We seek to tackle hard problems where solutions have been difficult to find. We feel a sense of urgency about making concrete progress and advancing equitable housing opportunities for all.

  • HUMILITY.

We recognize that we don’t have all the answers. We commit to listening, learning, and sharing openly—both our successes and our mistakes. We approach our work with a servant mindset, staying grounded in the needs of the community.

  • STEWARDSHIP.

We believe in the responsible use of shared resources to create lasting housing solutions. We honor the trust placed in us by acting with integrity, transparency, and a commitment to the greater good.

  • CREATIVITY.

We embrace innovation and fresh ideas to tackle Lancaster County’s housing challenges. We are excited by new models, open to exploring bold solutions, and committed to pushing beyond the status quo to build a more just and sustainable future.

Without the right partners, this vision doesn’t pencil out.

Lancaster Housing Works will partner with the High Companies, a trusted name in local real estate for more than 40 years, to acquire, build, and manage properties in our portfolio. They will provide these services at below-market rates, helping us to deliver more middle-income housing faster.

Launching with Support from the

High Foundation

With a $10 million seed investment, the High Foundation is helping us build momentum and inspire additional partners to expand middle-income housing in our community. Funded by proceeds from High Companies, the High Foundation invests in local initiatives that create economic vibrancy and community well-being.

Modern apartment building with large glass windows and a mix of dark and light exteriors, supported by the Lancaster Housing Fund, offers affordable housing with clean lines, contemporary design, and beautiful views against a clear blue sky.
